The Grand Budapest Hotel directed by Wes Anderson is a whimsical story set in the 1960s and 30s. It revolves around the friendship between concierge Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes) and a lobby boy, Zero (Tony Revolori). After one of Gustave's lovers dies, himself and Zero go on a bit of a quest to retrieve the priceless artwork the lover left in her will to Gustave. Gustave becomes a suspect in her murder and Zero has to do all he is told to keep from getting Gustave and himself in trouble.

This movie came out in 2014, and I just watched it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, a little late to the party, but I'm so glad I finally watched it! It's such a well-done film, from the coloring of scenes to the acting to the small love story, this film is incredibly done! It's no wonder that this film was nominated for several Academy Awards and Golden Globes.

One of the things that I absolutely love about The Grand Budapest Hotel is the cinematography, and critically acclaimed cinematographer Robert Yeoman is to thank for that. There is something so aesthetically pleasing about the way this movie was filmed that tells a story all in its self! Everything is very symmetrical and, very often, the actors look into the camera as they converse as if they were conversing with the audience. Also, the coloring of this film is so lovely! In the 60s there's a yellow/green hue to every scene; whereas, in the 30s there are lots of red and pink tones. It's an interesting contrast to the new vs the old and one that I admire.

The cast of this movie is also a great blend of actors and actresses from all different genres of work. The stunning Ralph Fiennes takes a turn and plays more of a witty and loveable character as Gustave; unlike one of his most notable roles as Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films. Tony Revolori plays the innocent and loveable Zero. I'm used to seeing Revolori play Flash Thompson in Marvel's Spiderman films; it was nice to see Revolori as the main character and see him in his most notable role. The unwaveringly talented Saoirse Ronan tops off this cast as the modest and trustworthy, Agatha. Even though the actors in this film weren't nominated for any major awards, they are incredibly talented and pull this whole film together!

This film is great for people who need a laugh, love cinematography, or who wants to see a wonderful cast work altogether! From now on, I will 100% recommend this movie to every single one of my friends. In my world, this movie is a new classic that everyone needs to see! With humorous dialogue, swift action scenes, and an impeccable storyline, The Grand Budapest Hotel checks off every box to become a classic film (in my book anyway)!
