Stand By Me directed by Rob Reiner is an adventure drama based on the story by Stephen King. Four rugged boys in Oregon decide to go find the body of a boy that had been killed nearby. Through friendship struggles, the wild outdoors, and runaway trains, these boys see it all on their weekend adventure into the unknown.
I am not a big horror fan, so most of Stephen King's stories I pay little attention to, but Stand By Me was amazing! I loved every bit of it, and I never got bored once! The four boys are played by actors Wil Wheaton, River Pheonix, Jerry O'Connell, and Corey Feldman. At the time, these boys were around the age of twelve, a young age to be on screen in almost every scene, but they did an incredible job! From the fights within their friend group to the solemn truth of what they were seeking, these actors are magnificent! So it's no surprise that they all went off to do even bigger things.
I had never heard of the movie Stand By Me before, but I am so glad that my family decided to record it once while it was playing on tv! I loved everything about it! The kids were so believable and the way the story is portrayed, it really felt like something real kids would do in the 1950s. If you haven't been able to tell, I love pretty much anything that takes place before the 1980s, especially if the film really hones in on that time period, which Stand By Me most certainly does! This film, even though I wasn't alive in the 50s, or the 80s when it was released, there's an air of nostalgia to the film that I absolutely love!
The soundtrack to this film is also one of my favorite parts of this movie! Songs in movies have the ability to change the whole feeling of a scene, and the songs in this film did a great job shaping this film into a 1950s adventure with young boys. "Lollipop" by The Chordettes, "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lewis, and, of course, "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King are some of my favorites from the film. These songs help to move the story along and helped make Stand By Me a classic.
If you want to watch a lighthearted classic I recommend Stand By Me! You will fall in love with the characters, the songs, and the whole story in general. These kids are rambunctious and personable; you will love them at parts and definitely want to scold them at others. You will be filled with adrenaline at some scenes and as calm as a cat in others. Stand By Me is a one of a kind film that has everything that someone looking for an adventurous coming-of-age film could want.
If you have seen this film, comment below what your favorite adventurous scene is, or who your favorite of the four boys is! If you haven't seen Stand By Me, I highly recommend watching it as soon as you can; you won't regret it!
