Citizen Kane

                       Citizen Kane - Wikipedia

Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles, is a quintessential, classic film. Charles Foster Kane owns a newspaper that covers all of the United States. When he dies suddenly, a reporter is sent on a mission to figure out what his final word, "Rosebud" means. Through talking with friends, colleagues, and mistresses, the reporter will learn the true life of Kane. Released in 1941, this film gives off an antique aroma that takes people back to the classic American ways.

With classic actors, Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten, and Dorothy Comingore and advanced cinematography (Thanks to Gregg Toland), Citizen Kane was ahead of its time. There were many scenes throughout the film that I was so impressed with the camera angles and the use of shadows, that I thought this film was made in the 2000s. Not to mention the whole storyline and the ending which seems like something, unlike any other predictable 1900s film. Overall, if you're looking for a movie ahead of its time, Citizen Kane is the one for you!

To be honest, I definitely thought this film was going to be a sort of "Diehard" kind of film with action and spontaneity, but I was pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was! This film is easy to follow and doesn't have any bloodshed or fanatical fighting. However, don't let that last statement make you think that there isn't any hostility or verbal clashing! This film is filled with passionate tensions between loved ones that make this film a classic.

The cast for this film is also so incredible! The character arcs (plural because there are lots of ups and downs) of Charles Foster Kane (Orson Welles) are incredibly modern and realistic. In fact, all the characters have vastly modern stories that, when put together, make an exuberant film! And, the fact that Orson Welles wrote, directed, and starred in this film was absolutely incredible for the 1940s (much like many great actors and actresses do today)!

I am so glad that I have watched this classic film! Since Citizen Kane was so ahead of its time, I think anyone who enjoys films needs to see it, especially if you love analyzing them and love to see the history of cinema! Even though I regard this film as a true classic, it wasn't predicted by critics to be one when it first came out! I found a really interesting fact about this on IMDB,
Despite all the publicity, the film was a box-office flop and was quickly consigned to the RKO vaults. At 1941's Academy Awards the film was booed every time one of its nine nominations was announced. It was only re-released to the public in the mid-'50s
I mean wow, that comes as a huge shock to me!

So, if you want to see what all the hype is about (nowadays, that is), check out Citizen Kane, you won't regret it! And when you've seen it, comment below if you agree with me that this film is a classic!
