Palm Springs is a rom-com film that was released on Hulu on July 10, 2020. Nyles (Andy Samberg) and Sarah (Cristin Milioti) are two guests at a wedding in Palm Springs. After getting stuck in a time loop, these two relive the same day over and over and over again. The two make the most of this repeating day, as nothing they do lasts forever. Eventually, these two find out some truths about their pasts which puts them on shaky grounds. This hilarious and slightly heartwarming film is one that most everyone will enjoy.
I, of course, was drawn to this film because of Andy Samberg. I am a huge fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and I knew that Andy Samberg would make this film incredible. I was not disappointed. Palm Springs is hilarious at parts, intense at others, and overall just a great film! This film may not be Oscar-worthy, but it is great if you're looking for a light-hearted movie to watch with some friends!
Palm Springs was directed by Max Barbakow, written by Andy Siara, and debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. These two up and coming filmmakers made Palm Springs have a new and fresh feel compared to most films. Although the idea of a repeating day isn't necessarily new, the entire story of Palm Springs is very different and contemporary.
One thing I love about this film (if you've read other blog posts of mine, you'll see this is a reoccurring love) is the coloring! I find it so satisfying when a film has a certain color scheme that makes the film feel very continuous! Palm Springs definitely uses this to its advantage! With a light pink added to a dull bluish hue the coloring makes you feel like you're in Palm Springs on a nice summer day. This repetitive coloring helps make the days of the film feel very repetitive like they are supposed to be.
Of course, the acting in Palm Springs is incredible! Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti make this story feel real and the dialogue between them feels very natural. Like I mentioned before, I am a big fan of Andy Samber, so I know how good he makes a film, but I have never seen Cristin Milioti before. That being said, I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for more of her work! The acting in this film is light and breezy which makes this film very smooth and wonderful!
Overall, Palm Springs is a great film I will be recommending (and rewatching) for years to come! If you have seen Palm Springs, I would love to hear what you thought about it! And if not, tell me what some of your favorite Andy Samber and Cristin Milioti works are! I'd love some new recommendations!
Now for all of you who have seen Palm Springs, let's hope this post was not a "grammatical nightmare"!
